USM Acknowledges and Celebrates
the Volunteers of 2007-08!

The month of December is special in so many ways, and at USM it’s also a time to acknowledge the many contributions of our valued volunteers. As graduates have shared so often before, the level of support, encouragement, and loving service they received as students contributed to a life-changing and life-enhancing experience, and they are inspired to give back to the next generation of students. It’s with great enthusiasm that they now embrace the opportunity to contribute to this unique, heart-centered learning environment.

During each class weekend in December, a luncheon was held in honor of those hundreds of volunteers who joyfully give hours of their time to support others in having the quality experience that they themselves have had. USM’s Chief Academic Officer, Mary Hulnick, spoke of her deep appreciation for these special individuals, saying, “This work could not be done without you. Know how much we truly honor and love you.”

USM’s President, Ron Hulnick, spoke of the many exciting developments in the works at USM, including the possibility of taping seminars for posting on USM’s beautifully updated website. Everyone in the room listened with rapt attention as he shared, since it was evident that this work is expanding to a larger audience in the New Year. Ron playfully added: “And you heard it here first!”

After Drs. Ron and Mary Hulnick shared their heartfelt thanks, USM’s Director of Volunteer Resources, Julie Klingel, delighted every volunteer with a gift on behalf of the University, wrapped in a beautiful, cherry red box with a gold USM logo in the center. Inside was a lovely crystal heart-shaped candle holder with a candle. Many were touched at the thoughtfulness and care that went into picking such a special present for them, and some lit their candles right then and there.

To all our beloved Volunteers, we say, “We are so grateful to each of you for the loving enthusiasm and devotion to service you bring. Each of you is special in your own way, and we all benefit from your contributions. We love you.”
