Gordon Meredith has served as a member of the faculty of the University of Santa Monica since 1990. He served as a Faculty Reader Leader in the M.A. Program in Spiritual Psychology for 18 years. In 1992, as a member of the founding faculty of the M.A. Program in Counseling Psychology, he co-designed the Supervised Practicum and Spiritual Psychology and Group Process for this program’s fulfillment of the educational requirements of Marriage and Family Therapy licensing in California.
Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California, and credentialed as a Certified Group Psychotherapist, Gordon has maintained a private practice in the San Diego area since 1983, working with groups, families, couples, and individuals. His specialties include group psychotherapy, men’s groups, couples counseling, and the use of EMDR and other energy psychologies for trauma resolution as well as attachment and relationship issues. For mental health professionals, he provides support groups, as well as individual consultation and supervision. He is completing preparation for training as a Designated Supervisor in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Gordon has extensive experience working in civilian, military, hospital, and outpatient settings. He authored a successful Request for Proposal to fund a residential psychiatric facility. In 1985, he was voted Employee of the Year for the Community Research Foundation in San Diego. In 1993, he served as Conference Coordinator for “Tapping the Power Within: Cutting Edges of Therapy and Personal Growth,” an educational conference for mental health professionals in San Diego County.
Gordon holds an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the Professional School for Psychological Studies in San Diego, California, an M.A. in Applied Psychology from the University of Santa Monica, and an M.S. in Spiritual Science from Peace Theological Seminary. He has completed the three-year post-graduate clinical skills training with Drs. Erving and Miriam Polster at the Gestalt Training Center in La Jolla, California. He holds membership in The International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR International Association, American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, for which he served on the Board of Directors for the North County, San Diego Chapter from 1992 to 1994. He is a clinical member of the San Diego Group Psychotherapy Association.
Gordon's office is located in Solano Beach, CA. Gordon lives in North County San Diego with his wife Alissa, their dog Hero and their horse Ruahh. His personal interests include hiking, swimming, kayaking, meditating, and horseback riding.
